Taketomi Island is one of the remote islands in the beautiful sea of Okinawa, located about 10 minutes by ferry from Ishigaki Island. This island is easily accessible and is visited by many tourists every day.
Taketomi Island is designated as an important traditional building preservation district, and the good old Okinawan scenery still remains. Although it is a small island with a circumference of about 9 km, there are many sights to see.
In particular, “Kaiji Beach”, located about 15 minutes’ ride from the port by rented bicycle through the shade of green trees, is popular as a beach with a wonderful view.
The contrast between the white sand beach and the blue ocean, and the sunset over the ocean will leave a lasting memory of your trip.
Kaiji Beach is also famous for its “star sand beach. While enjoying the beautiful sea and clean air, you can look for star sands in mysterious shapes resembling stars and the sun.
You can collect the shells of star-shaped lower animals called “foraminifera,” long-lived creatures that have been around since the Paleozoic Era, 300 million years ago.
The surface of the rock is littered with star sand, allowing visitors to enjoy star sand collecting while enjoying the beautiful scenery.
