The Okinawa Prefectural Museum & Art Museum is a rare facility in Japan that combines a museum and an art museum.
The museum exhibits materials in various fields such as geology, biology, humanity, archaeology, folklore, history, and arts and crafts.
Also on display are the origins of the Ryukyu Islands, the world of evolved creatures, the history of the Ryukyu Kingdom to the present day, and the lives of people.
The museum exhibits oil paintings, watercolors, sculptures, prints, photographs, and videos, with a focus on modern and contemporary art works nurtured in the Okinawan climate.
This facility offers visitors the opportunity to experience Okinawa’s nature, history, culture, and art all at the same time.
In addition, the museum boasts the largest museum collection in Okinawa Prefecture with 94,000 items and the art museum with 3,700 items, as well as a museum store selling limited-edition items.
In the Fureai Experience Room, visitors can experience first-hand the nature, history, and culture of Okinawa by viewing the entire collection of materials and information about Okinawa.
This is a facility where you can encounter an Okinawa you never knew existed and enjoy its charms to the fullest. We hope you will take the time to enjoy your visit.
