Nishi Heiannazaki is a cape extending northwest from the fishing port of Karimata, located at the northwestern tip of Miyako Island.
It is about 10 km north of Hirara City and can be reached in about 20 minutes by car.
The cape has a promenade at its tip, and the whole area is maintained as a park. Three wind turbines for wind power generation line the promontory, and there is also an observation deck next to the wind turbines.
The 360-degree panoramic view is wonderful, with the emerald green sea spreading out, Ikema Island and Ikema Ohashi Bridge to the north, Irabu Island to the southwest, and Ogami Island to the east.
In addition, the Miyako horses, the rarest and smallest of Japan’s native species, graze on the hillside of the cape, and are popular with children because of their gentle disposition.
Because of its westerly location, the area is also known for its sunsets.
A rocky beach is located on the coast, and the sea beyond is crystal clear with beautiful coral reefs.
Ikema Ohashi Bridge and Ikema Island can be seen offshore. The windmill at Nishiheinanazaki is the symbol of this cape.
